JK Art and Culture organizes Writers’ Seminar

Kargil: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Kargil organized a Writers’ Seminar at Academy Hall Baroo, Kargil. 5 paper readers presented their research oriented papers while 12 scholars observed the programme. The paper readers included Abdul Hamid Tanvir who presented his paper on the topic History of Shakar Chikten, Bashir Ahmed Wafa on the topic Balti Marsia Goee, Ajaz Hussain Munshi The Migration of Dards from Gilgit towards Purig, Raza Amjed Downfall of the Western Tibetan Empire and Issa Sabiri Origin and the Usage Patterns of the Languages Spoken in Kargil respectively. Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan, Chief Executive Councilor,LAHDC, Kargil was the Chief Guest while as Haji Ghulam Amir Executive Councilor for Agriculture was the Guest of Honor. Aga Syed Kazim Sabiri, Executive Councilor for CA&PD was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest lauded the efforts of the Academy for organizing such programmes from time to time, and appreciated the speakers of their ample know how of the cultural legacy of Kargil. He also emphasized the need to initiate further research and exploration about Kargil, as many things are yet to be revealed that the world needs to know about the glorious past of this place. He also directed the Cultural Officer to make it possible to bring out and propagate such and many other research oriented papers available with Cultural Academy Kargil in the form of publications and promised to provide the required funds on this front.

Haji Ghulam Amir said that such programmes are the need of the hour in view of the growing threat of the local cultural legacy being lost owing to waves of modernization and westernization, and said that legacy lost is a community lost.

Earlier in his welcome speech, Muhammad Ali Tak, Cultural Officer Kargil said that Cultural Academy as always is committed to the preservation and promotion of art, culture and languages in Kargil district through poetic symposia, day long writers’ seminars, traditional music and dance programmes, theatre workshops, drama festivals, children’s music and painting competitions and the like, and this programme is yet another step in this regard. He further said that in organizing its activities in a befitting manner, the Academy has been getting active and timely support from the Hill Council Kargil, District Administration Kargil, and likewise from the literary and cultural circles. He urged upon these concerned quarters to keep continuing this practice enabling the Academy to fulfill the desired objectives with ease and contentment.
Giving details of the funds provided by the Hill Council Kargil for the Academy, he said that up to now the Council has provided nearly 9.00 lac rupees for the Academy for the
erection of the compound walling around the Academy Complex, provision of Public Address System, Generator Set, Computer System and others. He thanked the Hill Council especially Chief Executive Councilor, Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan for paying generous and timely heed to the problems of Cultural Academy Kargil, and hoping that the process of support will continue in the times to come as well reminded the CEC the proposal submitted recently by Cultural Academy Kargil for the necessary repairing and the construction of a second storey over the present Community Centre cum Display Room of the Academy at Baroo and the proposal for office automation and requested that they may be considered on priority.
